Will Armitage to Drive Schlattweiler #8D Non Wing at Ozark

Updated: Jul 21, 2022

Terry Babb left behind a lasting legacy in Motorsports after his unexpected passing a few weeks ago. Part of that legacy was the many laps he turned in the Michael Schlattweiler owned #8D Non Wing sprint car, and Will Armitage has been tapped as the next driver to pilot the iconic car.

“This opportunity leaves me pretty close to speechless at my age.” Armitage said when asked about the ride.  “I can’t thank Michael and his family for putting their trust in me to follow in the steps that Terry would want for the team.”

The deal was done with Terry’s wishes in mind, and Will is excited and honored to be behind the wheel this weekend at Lake Ozark Speedway.

“Michael called me Sunday evening prior to Terry's funeral and said, ‘Well, Terry would be pissed if I didn’t get back on the horse, what do you say we go run Ozark this weekend?’ I knew this was an opportunity with a special circumstance to it, and I can’t wait to take on the challenge.”

Armitage has found early success in 410 Winged Sprint Cars with the Midwest Open Wheel Association, already picking up a Top 5 finish in his rookie season.

“I wouldn’t be able to have opportunities like this without the amazing car owners I have drove for in the past; my father, Kent and Carolyn Johnson, Tony Robinson, Mark Siciliano, Pat and Debbie Odell, Bill Ecker, and the McDermand family. These are the people that have really handed me this opportunity, along with my amazing sponsors; XKGLOW, Armitage Collision Repair, Alliance Community Bank, Gillmore Allen Insurance, Meteer Manufacturing, OutaSpace, Graue Chevrolet, All American Home Inspections, and Box3 Media.”

Will Armitage will be behind the wheel of the Schlattweiler #8D this Friday and Saturday night at the Lake Ozark Speedway with the POWRi WAR Sprints. The Tezos All Star Circuit of Champions will also be in the house. Tickets for the weekend’s action can be purchased at the track, and FloRacing will have exclusive LIVE coverage of the event.

Will Armitage would like to thank his 2022 partners for their continued support!
