“When I was little going to the races around home, there were two things I don’t even think came to mind: winning the Midwest Open Wheel Association championship after looking up to so many incredible drivers as I grew up, and making laps around the Springfield Mile in a Silver Crown car.”
Will Armitage has already checked the first item off, winning the MOWA crown in 2024. He’ll finally realize that second dream this weekend.
“It has been an absolute grind getting this car together, we contemplated parking it for one more season with so much time going into the full-time wing deal this year, but I know every lap is so valuable and getting our debut in this year will only boost our efforts in the coming years.” Armitage said. “You always hear about the ‘Night Before the Mile’ at Lincoln Speedway to prelude the Bettenhausen 100 the following day, and I am so excited to be a part of both events that bring a notable field to my backyard in two different series.”
Armitage will contest Friday’s “Night Before the Mile” event at Lincoln Speedway with the MOWA Sprints, where he currently leads the point standings, and Saturday the Athens, IL driver will contest his first Silver Crown event at the Springfield Mile and the Bettenhausen 100 in his own #7 machine.
“Our expectation for this weekend is to have a successful run by making the field and building confidence as a team. It’s undoubtedly going to be the toughest challenge I’ve ever faced behind the wheel of a race car.” Armitage stated. “I am beyond grateful to have the crew that we have for this weekend: Jim Craig, Greg Nelson, Wade Seilers, Chuck Wagner, along with our 410 crew. This group adds experience beyond my years and I look forward to learning from a great group of guys that are willing to help me on and off the track.”
Along with all of his winged sprint car partners, Armitage wants to especially thank those that have made this weekend possible on the Silver Crown side.
“I’d like to express my appreciation to Smith Plumbing Heating and Cooling, Modern Paving and Scrap, and Brendon Bauman Photos for supporting our Silver Crown debut.” Armitage said. “We hope to see many local faces come out and support both events, and the story that it creates as we transition into Saturday morning practice at the Illinois State Fairgrounds”
Saturday’s Bettenhausen 100 at the Springfield Mile (Illinois State Fairgrounds) will begin with practice at 10AM, Qualifying at 11:30AM, a Qualifying Race at 12:30PM and the finale 100 lap feature at 2PM. The event will be broadcast on FloRacing and tickets are available at the track on race day.
Will Armitage Racing would like to thank their partners for their support this season!
