Trevor Frank Takes PDTR Point Lead After Second Straight Top 5

After a 7th place finish in PDTR B Mod points in 2020 (all while missing 4 race nights), Trevor Frank and Frank Motorsports had high hopes for their second season of competition in 2021. So far, they’re right on track, and maybe even exceeding expectations in this sophomore campaign.

Frank started last Saturday night with troubles in hot laps. A huge piece of clay from the extremely rough track surface tore the entire right side door panel off of the American Senior Benefits of Wisconsin 21F car, and forced the crew to put in overtime right off of the bat to fix and prep the car for heat race action. The Frank Motorsports crew was able to make hasty repairs before “Ballpark” rolled out for his heat race.

Starting 6th, Frank absolutely aced the initial start and found himself in 3rd by turn 2 after a bold three wide maneuver. After an early caution saw the leading car retire, Frank found himself 2nd, and again aced the restart, and powered away (even with the right side panel dragging in the dirt) to his first Heat Race win of 2021.

“That was huge for us to get a taste of winning so early in the season.” Frank said. “Especially going 6th to 1st so quickly. It put us in a great starting spot for the feature.”

The 25 lap A Main saw Frank start from 4th, but a fantastic start again moved the Sheboygan native to 2nd by turn 3. Riding the high side, Frank bolted to the cushion in turn 1 to pass for the lead, but spun after losing the rear of the car on entry.

“I just got into the rough stuff and it went around on me.” Frank said about the lap 2 spin. “The grip was there on lap 1 and it just wasn’t on lap 2. Big mistake that probably cost us a shot at the win.”

The young 2nd year driver more than made up for the mistake.

A furious charge through the field saw Frank advance from 22nd to 14th by lap 5. Then to 9th by lap 11. After a restart, Trevor used patient and precise moves to advance even further, moving into 4th with 2 laps to go and making a frantic charge for a podium spot on the final lap, actually pushing Gary Glander across the finish line. An absolutely fantastic run through the field for Frank, and further notice for the rest of the PDTR B Mod field that “Ballpark” and the 21F Team are for real.

“I felt like we had a fast hot rod.” Frank said about the night of racing. “Most people would be satisfied with fourth, but I know we could have been better and I’m kicking myself for such a costly mistake early in the race.” He then looked on the bright side of things moving forward. “One positive is we did come away with the points lead. Hopefully we can keep the consistency up and stay in a top 5 points spot throughout the season!”

Next up for Trevor and the Frank Motorsports team is this Saturday night, back at Plymouth for another weekly show. Racing begins at 5:00.

Trevor Frank and the entire 21F team would like to thank their 2021 partners for helping them be able to compete this season!
