Will Gerrits Gets Back on Track With Top 10 Run at Plymouth with MSA

A long week in shop and running around Wisconsin for parts was rewarded this week for the GCM/NAPA Filters #21 car at Plymouth on Saturday.

Gerrits would start 6th in his heat with the top 16 in Passing Points going to the feature event. After the initial start, “The Flying Dutchman” would finesse the #21 on a one-lane track to get around the #96 of Josh Teunissen and #3e of Justin Erickson to finish in 4th at the flag. That finish along with the feature invert meant Gerrits would start 11th in the 25 lap A Main.

A long race filled with red flags and cautions made it difficult for Gerrits to use the high side to his advantage like he had planned going into the race, but still quickly started reeling off positions, advancing to 7th by the ¾ mark in the event. However, a quickly fading top side meant Will would eventually fall to 9th by the checkered, allowing the hard charging #22b of Brandon Berth and the #66 of Nick Daywalt to get by on the bottom.

Ailing motors and power issues continued to plague both Gerrits and his teammate, the #99 of Tyler Brabant throughout the night.

“We made a little progress on our engine package, but we still have a long way to go.” Gerrits said. “I think the cars are handling really well and I felt the best I have in a while running the top. When we get the cars running as smoothly as they handle, I think you’ll see us up front a lot more often."

Gerrits currently sits 11th in both MSA overall standings and PDTR 360 track standings. After finishing 4th last season, he’ll look to string more top 10’s together to move up the rankings.
