Will Gerrits Powers Through MSA Field for Solid Finish

“It’s not where you start, it’s where you finish.” Will Gerrits put that quote to good use last Saturday at the Plymouth Dirt Track.

Gerrits wouldn’t receive any sort of luck all night, beginning with a 7th starting spot in his heat race. The Waupun, WI native would advance one position on a one lane track, but no further. Finishing outside the Top 16 in passing points and forcing the #21 GCM/NAPA Filters car into the B Main.

The B Main was a much different story. Gerrits would advance from his 3rd starting position to 2nd behind the #7 of Lance Fassbender, putting his nickname, “The Flying Dutchman” to good use. Utilizing the fantastic cushion provided by the PDTR track crew, Gerrits would avoid the carnage behind him, pull away from the #24m of Adam Miller and bring home a stout 2nd place finish putting the #21 into the Feature event.

Starting 18th, Gerrits would again follow Fassbender around the high side of the racetrack, dueling with his teammate, the #99 of Tyler Brabant, the #U2 of Jack Vanderboom, and Miller once again throughout the Feature, trading slide jobs and providing some fantastic racing for the fans, on the last restart, Gerrits would go 3 wide with Vanderboom and Brabant, rail the cushion and make up 2 final positions before the checkered flag, taking a 12th place finish behind the #7 of Fassbender. A fantastic result for sure after taking a week off.

“It was great to be behind the wheel again after a week off and have a sub in the car.” Gerrits said. “We tried something to make our engines run a little better and I feel that we are now on par with the rest of the field. Both the 21 and 99 ran better and we are ready to run 3 nights this weekend!”

Gerrits currently sits 14th in PDTR points and 12th in the MSA Standings heading into the final month of the season. Next up for the GCM/NAPA Filters team is a triple header weekend, with Thursday and Friday at Plymouth, then Saturday the MSA heads to Beaver Dam to support the IRA Sprints in the Wipperfurth Memorial Race.
