Will Armitage Scores MOWA Top 5 in Just Second 410 Start

“To be up to 2nd place just after halfway definitely caught me by surprise.” Will Armitage wasn’t the only one surprised and impressed with his performance this past Saturday at Highland Speedway with the Midwest Open Wheel Association. The 16 Year Old’s emphatic night helped cement the XKGLOW 7A Team’s place in the Midwest 410 Sprint Car scene just two races into their campaign.

Starting dead last in Heat 1, Armitage moved forward two positions to finish 6th on a largely one lane track. In MOWA’s passing points format that put Will in the 15th starting position for the night’s A Main at the Highland, IL bullring.

“We started off the night not knowing if we had resolved the oil issue we’d been having recently.” Armitage said. “The heat race didn’t really show the speed we had in the car with the track being so one lane early in the night.”

Starting deep in the field, the Athens, IL native began to roll the bottom of the track to perfection, picking off cars one by one until a yellow flag flew around the halfway point. That’s when the 16-Year-Old realized just how far he’d come.

“I started the A Main with a Top 10 finish in mind,” Armitage recalled. “But to be up to 2nd just after halfway definitely caught me by surprise. Unfortunately once we went back green I saw the water temperature kept spiking and I couldn’t push as much as I had been.”

Will nursed the XKGLOW 7A home in an extremely strong 5th place, capping a +10 run from 15th on the grid and putting a massive exclamation point on a fantastic race. Armitage finished just behind 4th place Cory Bruns and ahead of MOWA powerhouse Paul Nienhiser.

“The disappointment in knowing we could have stood on the front stretch in just my second ever 410 race is heavy for sure.” Will said about the result. “But in the end I know it’s just more confidence and drive moving forward into a long season of racing!”

Will Armitage will be back behind the wheel of the XKGLOW 7A with the MOWA 410 Sprint Cars this Friday night at Tri-City Speedway in Granite City, IL. Tickets for the night’s action can be purchased at the track.
