“This Green Bay Blizzard 26T is bad fast.” Indeed, Tyler Tischendorf. It is fast. After having nothing but issues the first few weeks of the 2021 MSA Season, Tischendorf Racing seems to finally have the gremlins worked out, and their young driver back at the front of the pack.
“Headstand’s” night at Plymouth on Saturday began with a not great, not terrible pill draw, putting the 26T in the 5th starting spot in their heat race.
On the start, the Waupaca, WI driver used the hammer down bottom lane to scoot past fourth starting Bill Taylor to take that fourth spot on lap 2. After a spin by second running Adam Miller, Tischendorf found himself in 3rd, and the youngster would stay there to cap a 5th to 3rd finish and lock the Green Bay Blizzard 26T into the night’s feature.
“It was honestly just one lane and I definitely got some luck.” Tischendorf admitted. “But I felt like we were quicker than the guys in front of us so I knew we were in with a chance in the A Main.”
An unfortunate invert combined with a one lane track in the heats meant Tischendorf was one of the highest passing point earners, and that large invert relegated the 26T to a 10th starting spot.
The 25 lap A Main began under wet conditions. Yes, you read that right, it was actually drizzling throughout the night’s feature events. However, a torrid pace set by the field allowed the moisture to burn off and the track was hammer down yet again, albeit this time on the top side of the speedway.
Tischendorf used that top side to rocket around two cars early in the race, and the remaining laps ran completely caution free with the field relatively spread out from 5th on back. Tyler continued to rip the cushion for those closing circuits and brought the 26T home with its first Top 10 finish of the 2021 season in 8th place.
“I’m just stoked with that result.” An ecstatic Tyler Tischendorf said after the race. “That’s exactly what we needed after the terrible start to the season we’ve had. Our confidence is back now and we just need to keep things rolling.”
Next up for Tischendorf Racing is Saturday night, back at The Dirt Track at Plymouth for their regular PDTR program, then Sunday night the MSA travelling series heads south for the return of the Historic Angell Park Speedway in Sun Prairie, WI after the track was closed all of 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic and regulations.
