After a weekend of tough luck and long hours in the shop during the week, Trevor Frank and the Frank Motorsports Team were rewarded with a strong 8th place finish in the Cellcom B Mod Division at Plymouth Dirt Track racing on Saturday night.
Frank would begin the night on a high, drawing the #7 pill and starting on the pole of his heat. However, the luck wouldn’t last very long. On the initial start, the #14 car of Craig Gessner would spin his tires, causing a false start and a complete re-rack. On the second start attempt, Gessner would hit a slick spot in turn 3 and get into Frank, and Race Control deemed Frank was to blame for starting early, and was subsequently sent to the back. Frank would however race his way back to 5th, before losing out at the line to fellow Rookie Brendan Ostrowski. That finish would put Frank 10th in the Feature later in the night.
The feature was more of the same for the Sheboygan native. On lap 9, Frank would spin in turn 3 while battling with another fellow rookie, the #25 of Jim Fischer. Frank would race his way back into the top 10, then on lap 15 would make incidental contact with Fischer and both drivers would be sent to the back of the pack with 10 laps to go. Frank kicked it into high gear after that, passing 7 cars in the last 10 laps to bring home an 8th place finish, capping an eventful but strong points night for the #21f camp.
“The heat race was rough.” Frank said. “I got called on a jump start when the car above me spun the tires and on the next start the same car hit a wet spot coming into turn 3 and spun into me and they sent me to the back, which I didn’t agree with, but we still managed to put ourselves in a decent spot for the Feature. We got sent to the back twice and still drove up to 8th, and that shows just how much pace this car has. This thing is hooked up right now, just way too many driver errors on my end of things.”
Frank held on to 10th in the Cellcom B Mod division points standings at PDTR, and increased his Rookie of the Year points lead over Jim Fischer and Brendan Ostrowski.
