“It just sucks man” Tyler Tischendorf had every right to be downcast after his opening night lasted about 10 laps this past Saturday. However, promising pace before the breakdown of the Green Bay Blizzard 26T’s powerplant has the Tischendorf team optimistic heading into round 2 this weekend.
Tyler began the night by setting a scorching pace in group qualifying, putting distance between himself and other cars, and inevitably having to check up for slower cars on track. A promising beginning to an ill-fated night, as “Headstand” lined up 6th in Heat 1 due to the reversion to pill draw after a qualifying time mix up.
A decent start saw Tyler advancing to 5th, but then immediate trouble as his hood came loose. From then on, Tischendorf was driving his 600 HP Winged 360 Sprint Car with just his left hand, while holding his hood in place with his right. It then became evident to both Tyler and onlookers that the 26T’s engine was not feeling well. At a lap 7 yellow flag, Tischendorf saw the temperatures climb and heard the sputtering intensify, and pulled back to the hauler.
“We dropped a valve in number 1.” Tischendorf said when asked about the issue. “I’m just happy I pulled in when I did because it didn’t do any major damage.” A tough end to a short night, but the pace was there, and that was evidenced in Tyler’s optimism about this coming weekend in Chilton.
“Our whole team had a lot of confidence going into last Saturday. The car was really fast in hot laps, but the motor got sick and it’s just one of those things that can happen. We’ll get it fixed and be back in the blink of an eye.” And fix it they did, the 26T team plans to be back this weekend at Chilton with the MSA.
Gravity Park was a fickle thing for Tischendorf last season. A decent qualifying saw the 26T go 13th quick out of a 33 car field. Then Tischendorf missed the transfer out of his heat by 1 spot, finishing 5th. Then it was the same story in the B Main, fighting an unusually stacked last chance field for a 7th place finish. But Tischendorf said he felt good about the team’s chances at the ¼ mile bullring.
“We should be fine. I just had no experience there last season like a lot of the field and it took me a while to get used to it. I like that place a lot and we’re going to come out swinging this Saturday.”
