This weekend will mark the first Doubleheader in IRA Sprints competition since July 30th and 31st, and with it a golden opportunity for #TeamMAS driver Sean Rayhall to extend his lead in the Sage Fruit Top Apple Rookie of the Year standings, as well as make more gains on the top 5 in points.
The Interstate Racing Association will head back to its birthplace this weekend, the southern Wisconsin speed palace that is Wilmot Raceway. The All Star Circuit of Champions will join forces with the IRA on Friday to make it a $5,000 grand prize with $500 to start the Feature, and on Saturday the IRA will go solo and host the Roger Iles Tribute Race paying $3,600 to win with $360 to start the 36 lap Feature.
Rayhall has had two extremely strong runs there of late, accumulating 1 Quick Time Award, 1 Top 10 Finish and 1 B Main Victory along with an impressive run from 19th to 13th two weeks ago at the track. With last week’s event at Fairbury American Legion Speedway raining out, each race becomes more and more important as the season goes on for the Big Machine Vodka/Bigg Golf #14r. Rayhall was more than excited when talking about the coming weekend.
“I’m really looking forward to racing with the All Stars again this Friday, and with IRA on Saturday.” Rayhall said. “It’s been a weird few weeks circumstantially with different issues on the car and the rainout at Fairbury where I don’t think our true speed has really shown, but I’m ready to get the job done this weekend and get our Sippel Racin’ #14r up front for all our sponsors that make this deal possible!”
Rayhall currently sits 6th in IRA Points coming into this weekend’s events, 499 points back of Bill Balog in 1st, but only 123 behind Jake Blackhurst in 5th. Perhaps more importantly, “Top Shelf” is closing in on accomplishing his main goal at the start of the season; Rookie of The Year. Jack Routson was expected to be his main rival for that award this year, but after Routson experienced mid season motor and other issues on his #14 car, just as the SRM/Sippel Racin’ crew went on a tear of Top 10 finishes and other solid results, the gap between the two has widened to over 300 points from Rayhall in 6th to Routson in 15th. However, Routson has since fixed the issues ailing his machine, and has rejoined the IRA field on a regular basis, so there is no room for error at the #14r camp for the remainder of 2020.
