Kyle Schuett Opens 2021 With Solid Outing in MOWA Competition

Kyle Schuett and the Health Alliance/Progressive Propane Schuett Racing 9K Team made great strides in 2020 with their 410 program, and were hoping to carry that momentum into the first rounds of the 2021 season. A solid performance against an extremely tough Midwest Open Wheel Association field at Tri-City Speedway in southern Illinois should help bolster their confidence heading into IRA competition this coming weekend.

A pill-draw system set Schuett up with a 6th place start in Heat #2, and the 9K got off to a slightly slow start. “We just started off rusty.” Kyle said after finishing 6th in the Heat race. “We were behind the 8 ball chasing the track and we needed to be more aggressive setup wise to start the night. I made some mistakes on starts through the night and gave up too much.”

A lackluster start in the heat race put Schuett in the B Main, starting 5th. A spirited drive saw the 9K finish in 2nd, advancing to the 25 lap Feature.

Kyle started 19th in the main event, but didn’t stay there long. Within the first 3 circuits, Schuett had the 9K up to 16th, and didn’t stop there. After a red flag on lap 7, Kyle advanced another position to 15th, and began to put on a charge to chase a Top 10 finish. After being as high as the 10th position, Schuett battled with McKenna Haase and Dustin Barks to eventually finish 12th, a solid recovery drive after an inauspicious start to the evening.

“We definitely rebounded for a nice finish from where we were after the heat race.” Schuett said about the night’s events. “We’ll look to build on that moving forward when we start our IRA season on Saturday!”

The next race for the Schuett Racing Inc. 9K will be this Saturday, April 24th at Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI with the IRA Sprints for their Wisconsin opener. Tickets are available at the track. If you can’t make it out to see the methanol monsters of the IRA in person, every IRA race will be exclusively broadcasted on the FloRacing streaming service all season long.
