A rough couple of weeks for Schuett Racing hasn’t deterred the Health Alliance/Progressive 9K team from pushing forward, and the crew and driver Kyle Schuett showed that resolve once again at Beaver Dam this past Saturday night.
The team began the night with a 15th place run in qualifying that Kyle put completely on himself.
“I just made a driver mistake in qualifying.” Schuett said. “If I had been smoother the 2nd lap, we would have been in the invert and likely on the pole of a heat. Instead we were 15th and needed track position the rest of the night.”
Schuett had a mostly uneventful heat race on a mostly one lane Beaver Dam Raceway, apart from being passed by Brian Kristan and then retaking the position later in the 10 lap event. The Philo, IL native did come home 5th and in doing so locked himself into the night’s 30 lap feature, and learned some valuable information along the way.
“We ran fifth in the heat and I learned a lot about the track and where it would end up later on.” Kyle said. “I know it might take rubber, but it was looking like a top heavy track so we planned for that going into the A.”
The 30 lap feature saw an absolute slider fest throughout the 24 car field. Schuett kept his head, stayed out of trouble and picked off cars late in the race to bring home his second top 10 of the year with a 15th to 10th place run. A solid result after a chaotic night throughout the IRA Sprints ranks.
“We made steady strides toward the Top 10 in the feature.” Schuett said. “I got really tight towards the end of the race but we were still right on the tail of the next few cars in front of us before that last caution. We’ve got some work to do to get better, but Saturday was definitely an improvement over the last couple weeks.”
The Top 10 result elevated Schuett to 6th overall in IRA points and allowed him to extend his lead in Rookie of the Year standings over Jack Berger in 12th.
The next race for the Schuett Racing Inc. 9K will be this Sunday, May 30th at 141 Speedway for Round 2 of the Hopf Farms Bullring Showdown. If you can’t make it out to see the methanol monsters of the IRA in person, every IRA race will be exclusively broadcasted on the FloRacing streaming service all season long.
