Goldesberry Reflects on Trying 2024 Season

The 2024 race season was not the norm for Jordan Goldesberry and the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 Team.

“Things other teams, or even us usually, can get away with we just didn’t.” Goldesberry said of the trials and tribulations this year brought the 2022 IRA Champion. “Things just didn’t go our way whether it was silly mechanical things or some mistakes here and there.”

The season got off to a great start for the Springfield, IL based team. 3 Top 5 finishes out of the first 4 races and 5 straight Top 10 runs marked a promising first few weeks of the year. Then it seemed like what could go wrong, went wrong.

An up and down middle portion of the season which included a monstrous four straight races in Indiana during the IRA Sprints’ Maverick Mayhem week, meant Goldesberry found himself out of IRA title contention for the first time in two seasons.

However, the team took on a “never quit” attitude and still represented their marketing partners extremely well with off-track public appearances at various HyVee stores during the year including Sycamore, IL, Altoona, IA and Knoxville, IA. After the team made their annual visit to the Knoxville Nationals, Goldesberry said they found some things to work on and pin-pointed where certain issues were happening.

“Knoxville helped us a ton this year.” Goldesberry said. “It was nice to just reset outside of points racing, but we really learned a lot about the car and this new tire to help us when we went back to regular IRA competition.”

Goldesberry came out of the Knoxville Nationals swinging. 4 Straight Top 10 finishes, an 11th place run at the Jerry Richert Memorial, and finally an emphatic victory at 141 Speedway.

“It was great to get a win at 141. It at least softened the blow of this year a bit.” Goldesberry said with a laugh. “It was great to get Rockstar Energy Drink, Flamin’ Hot, HyVee Fast & Fresh and all our other partners in victory lane. Three straight at 141 is really cool as well. Definitely wish we ran there more often!”

Unfortunately, the up and down season came to an abrupt end for Goldesberry after taking a massive ride over the wall at the ultra-fast Mississippi Thunder Speedway while running inside the top 5 positions. Despite missing the season finale at Plymouth, Goldesberry still finished a very solid 5th in the overall IRA points standings.

“I felt some soreness in my back and we decided to not risk running at Plymouth the next night before I got checked out.” Goldesberry stated. “Thankfully I’m all good now, but it was definitely a bummer to miss championship night at Plymouth. Obviously health comes first and it was unfortunately the right call. I want to thank all our partners for sticking by us this season! We’ll rebuild this off-season and come back better next year.
