Goldesberry Rebounds for Top 10 in Semmelmann Memorial

Every sprint car season will throw you a couple curveballs. Going to their backup car early in 2023 was exactly that for the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 team.

“We just haven’t been happy with it.” Driver Jordan Goldesberry said of the second car. “Compared to the one we started the year with, it just doesn’t handle as well, or at least how we’d like it to.”

Despite enduring a mid-season slump and struggling with the balance of the car, Goldesberry still impressed this past Saturday at the Plymouth Dirt Track. Where, for the first time ever, the 1/3 mile oval played host to the annual Scott Semmelmann Memorial race.

After going out late to qualify and placing 18th out of 28 cars present, Goldesberry had a mountain to climb. Starting 6th in his heat race, the Springfield, IL native drove to 4th at the finish on a cowboy up and hammer down racetrack. The sterling effort landed the #65 in the 13th starting spot for the night’s 30 lap A Main.

Making moves both on the top and bottom sides of the Plymouth Dirt Track, Goldesberry quickly drove into the Top 10 and briefly had a look at the top 5. After a fierce battle with the #23 Russel Borland for 5th, the 2022 IRA Champion eventually conceded the position and crossed the finish line in 6th for a +7 run.

“It was great to rally like we did.” Goldesberry said of the end result. “It’s just unfortunate we keep putting ourselves in a hole to start the night. We’re definitely looking forward to taking the weekend off and putting a new car together before we head north!”

Goldesberry and the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 team will continue their 2023 IRA Sprints campaign with a massive 3 day swing through two states in just one week’s time. July 13th will see the IRA debut  at the I-94 EMR Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN. On Friday, the tour heads to the phenomenal River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks, ND for the two day Buffalo Wild Wings “King of the Wings” special event. Tickets are available at these respective facilities for all three nights, and the Northern Outlaw Sprint Association (NOSA) will co-sanction all 3 events. FloRacing will provide live coverage of the IRA all season long.

Jordan Goldesberry Racing thanks their 2023 partners for their support this season!
