The IRA vs. NOSA “King of the Wings” weekend has become one of the favorite events of the season for fans, teams and drivers alike. Jordan Goldesberry and the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 team made the most of the now three race swing, bringing home a Top 10 finish every night.
The weekend kicked off on Thursday night at the I-94 EMR Speedway in Fergus Falls, MN for the IRA Sprints’ first ever appearance at the high speed ⅜ mile oval. Goldesberry had an extremely solid night overall, qualifying 2nd out of 19 cars in Flight B of time trials, making the dash redraw and finishing 9th in the A Main.
“It was great to see a new track for the first time and have great speed all night.” Goldesberry said of the Fergus Falls visit. “I really hope we go back in the future.”
On Friday and Saturday, the series ventured a couple more hours north on I-94 to Grand Forks, ND and the “World Famous Legendary Bullring” River Cities Speedway. Goldesberry once again put in sterling performances both nights.
Friday night saw the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 qualify 4th in Flight B, pick up a heat race victory and log a 7th place finish in the night’s 30 lap feature.
“I felt like we were too good early on in the feature.” Goldesberry said of Friday’s results. “The track evolves so fast in the A Main there that you almost have to set the car up for the end of the feature rather than the start.”
On Saturday for the $5,000 to win Buffalo Wild Wings “King of the Wings” finale, qualifying once again went well for the defending IRA champion, timing in 4th in Flight A and locking the #65 into the dash redraw for the third consecutive night. Starting 9th in the feature, Goldesberry battled fiercely with the best of the IRA and NOSA for a Top 10 spot all race long before eventually crossing the line in 8th at the checkered flag.
“It was great to make the dash all three nights.” Goldesberry stated. “We just didn’t end up with the final results we hoped for, but it was awesome to be in contention every night. It felt like we needed longer green flag runs each night to really have a shot at a podium or even better. It was awesome to hang out with everyone all weekend, doing maintenance alongside the other teams in the morning and traveling together. Definitely looking forward to another tripleheader weekend if everything goes according to plan!”
Goldesberry and the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 team will continue their 2023 IRA Sprints campaign on Friday, July 21st at Outagamie Speedway in Seymour, WI for their annual Fair Night before heading back to Illinois for a 2-day swing with the All Star Circuit of Champions at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, IL and Red Hill Raceway in Sumner, IL. All three nights will be broadcast live on FloRacing.
