Goldesberry Cuts Into IRA Points Deficit at Bloomington & Butler

Rare visits to Indiana and Michigan highlighted this past weekend for the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 team, with both events yielding positive outcomes, Friday in particular.
29 stout cars checked in at Indiana’s Bloomington Speedway that night, and a pre-race cloud burst set the stage for a hammer down race track and a race full of attrition. Goldesberry weathered the storm and finished 5th from 16th on the grid.
“Story of our year, behind the ball early and a solid finish at the end of the night.” Goldesberry said of the charge. “Glad we could put together a top 5 finish at a place we don’t normally run. Just tried to stay clean all night and we did that.”
Saturday the series headed about four hours north to the Butler Motor Speedway in Quincy, MI. 37 cars checked in and produced an epic night of racing. Goldesberry said their heat race pace was solid, but the feature threw a curveball their way in the form of dust clouds that hindered the 2022 IRA Champion’s vision.
“Ran 6th to 3rd in the heat race and felt really good about where we were at going into the feature.” Goldesberry said. “Unfortunately we started deep in the field and I really couldn’t see a whole lot the entire race. Just went into conservation mode and rolled it into the trailer in one place after finishing 19th.”
Even with Saturday’s less than stellar finish, Goldesberry solidified his 2nd place position in the IRA points standings and cut into Blake Nimee’s lead. The gap was at 100 markers before the weekend started, and it has now shrank to just 78.
The IRA now heads into a multiple week off stretch, with the next event being slated for July 25th at the Mississippi Thunder Speedway. The late-July weekend will also include a Saturday stop at Beaver Dam Raceway, and a visit to historic Angell Park Speedway on Sunday.
Tickets for the tripleheader weekend’s events are available at the track on race day. Both shows will be broadcast live on FloRacing.
