The goal going into 2023 for the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 team was to once again contend for the Bumper to Bumper IRA Sprints championship, and while Goldesberry ultimately fell short of the overall title, the 2023 season was still one of, if not the best year the Springfield, IL driver has enjoyed since moving up to 410 sprint cars.
“It’s hard to be disappointed with a season like this.” Goldesberry admitted. “Second in points is obviously one spot behind where we’d like to be, but with how we started the year and the work this team did to get back to the front after our mid-season downswing was awesome to see.”
Goldesberry kicked off the season in barnstorming fashion, taking victory in 3 of the first 6 races the #65 entered. After wins at Beaver Dam Raceway, Highland Speedway (MOWA) and the Plymouth Dirt Track, the 2022 IRA Champion picked up his 4th win of the season at the 141 Speedway and take over the overall series points lead.
“141 was again a really strong track for us this year.” Goldesberry said of the tight ¼ mile bullring. “It’s a shame the fall race there rained out, especially with how we were running towards the end of the year.”
After a mid-season slump following a wreck with the All Star Circuit of Champions at Plymouth, Goldesberry and the Rockstar Energy Drink #65 team continued to battle their way back to the front of the extremely competitive IRA Sprints field.
“The [IRA] series was really tough this year.” Goldesberry stated. “With the regulars running every week and all the outside guys showing up seemingly every week, it made for a lot of really stacked shows and it was just that much tougher to pick up wins and podiums this year.”
When the eventual season finale checkered flag fell at the Wisconsin Sprint Car Championships at Plymouth, Goldesberry crossed the line in 7th. An extremely solid ending to a long and successful season.
“Not a bad finish to the year at all.” Goldesberry said of the final A Main result of 2023. “We were up to 5th at the red flag in the middle of the race, but dropped back a bit at the end. Definitely still feel like we need to improve at Plymouth but I think we learned some things to get better there in the future.”
In addition to making 100% of the IRA Sprints Features in 2023, Goldesberry also contested 4 All Star Circuit of Champions events, picked up a MOWA Sprints victory, and impressed at this year’s running of the Knoxville Nationals.
“Had a lot of fun this season with our family team and all the IRA competitors.” Goldesberry said. “Have to give a huge thank you to our partners for supporting us all season long. We’re looking forward to a productive off-season to prepare for 2024!”
