Brabant-Gerrits Racing Sees Solid Results in Double-Header Weekend

A double header MSA Sprints weekend provides teams with a prime opportunity to make gains in the points standings early in the season, and Brabant-Gerrits Racing did just that this past weekend at Beaver Dam Raceway and the Dirt Track at Plymouth.

The weekend opening night on Friday at Beaver Dam provided solid results for both Will Gerrits and Tyler Brabant, with Brabant finishing 2nd in his heat and 11th in the feature and Will Gerrits advancing through his heat and driving to 12th at the flag.

“Solid results on Friday,” Gerrits said. “But we definitely had more speed on my side of things that we weren’t able to capitalize on fully. We definitely stepped it up on Saturday.”

Brabant struggled on Saturday night, going 8th to 7th on a one lane Plymouth Dirt Track in his Heat, while a spin in the B Feature set him back and the Axel Racing 99 unfortunately missed the A Main transfer.

The night went a little bit different on Gerrits’ side of things.

The Waupun, WI native started on the pole of his heat race, and the Ditto #21 flew out to an early lead ahead of former MSA champion Kurt Davis and never looked back, scoring his first race win of 2021. The victory made it 15 straight years that Gerrits has won a competitive sanctioned race of some kind. More importantly though, it put Gerrits on the pole for the 25 lap A Main.

Rocketing to an early lead, the Ditto #21 set a torrent pace until lapped traffic slowed Gerrits with about 10 laps in. Kurt Davis used the high side to pass Will through turns 3 and 4 while he was stuck behind the slower car of Josh Tuennisen. Two laps later while battling with Davis, Gerrits made wheel to wheel contact with Tuennisen and damaged the front end of the Ditto #21 and started to slip through the field, eventually coming home 9th. A solid finish, but not representative of the pace that Gerrits showed all night long.

“I’m happy with the heat race win,” Gerrits said. “But our goal is feature wins. We’re fine tuning everything a little more each night, and we’re definitely moving in the right direction.

With this weekend’s finishes, Will Gerrits moved into 5th in PDTR 360 Sprint points, and 9th in the overall MSA standings, while Brabant sits 11th in MSA points.

The MSA tour will head back to The Dirt Track at Plymouth in Plymouth, WI for a regular PDTR Program on Saturday. Tickets will be available at both tracks this weekend.
