Brabant-Gerrits Racing Nets Top 5 Result at Gravity Park

Brabant-Gerrits Racing has a polarizing history at Gravity Park Speedway, with Will Gerrits struggling early last year before blitzing through the field to a top 10 finish, and Tyler Brabant spinning from 2nd in the feature, only to drive back to finish on the podium at the checkered. That history was added to this past weekend in round 2 of the MSA Sprint Season.

Qualifying went well for the BGR team, with Gerrits the better of the two, qualifying 2nd overall to Justin Erickson, and Brabant 2nd in his group. The heat races went the opposite direction however, with Gerrits sliding back to 7th due to lack of braking power on the tight ¼ mile track. Meanwhile, Brabant started 2nd and finished there, advancing to the night’s feature, while Gerrits would be relegated to the B Main.

Starting 7th, Gerrits began to move forward in the Ditto #21. Utilizing multiple grooves, the Waupun, WI native did all he could to transfer to the feature, but fell one spot short in 5th place.

“It was a struggle for me from the heat on.” Gerrit’s said about the tough night for his side of the BGR camp. “I lost braking power and a bunch of positions that put us in the B Main. I went forward, just not far enough.”

On the other side, Brabant lined up 9th for the night’s feature event. Dealing with multiple cautions throughout the event, Brabant kept his head and moved steadily forward as the laps wound down. Carnage up front allowed Brabant to score two more positions in the latter stages of the event, and bring home the team’s first top 5 finish of the season in 5th.

“Gravity was definitely a high and low for the team.” Gerrit’s said. “We’re extremely happy with the top 5 for Tyler, and the speed we showed in qualifying with myself in 2nd overall. But it was disappointing on my end of things. Still a great team result and we’ll move on to Plymouth and try to go 2 in a row there!”

The MSA tour moves back home to The Dirt Track at Plymouth in Plymouth, WI for the track’s season opening night. Tickets will be available at the track this Saturday night.
